‘Aguada’ literally mean Water. A freshwater spring within the fort provided water supply to the ships that used to stop by. This is how the fort got its name: Aguada, meaning Water. Fort Aguada was built by the Portuguese in 1612 and consists of a light house that was constructed in the 19 century. The purpose of the fort was to guard Goa from the Dutch and Marathas. Presently a part of this particular fort is used as a prison. Although being a magnificent architecture, only a few parts of the fort are said to be in good condition.
